I’m posting this entry using Windows… running natively on my MacBook Pro.
This is a bizzare experience, to say the least. Unlike Virtual PC, this is running very fast, faster than I’m used to seeing Windows run on any machine. But of course, being Windows, I instantly found something to be annoyed about: I can’t get the mouse pointer to go where I want! Every time I use the trackpad, the pointer keeps moving a little bit after I’ve stopped. It kind of glides softly to a halt, a little ways away from where I wanted it to be. I have seen this same problem on other Windows laptops, especially the kind that use that annoying little nub instead of a trackpad.
Oh, well. I will almost never boot my computer into Windows, but it is an interesting experiment and a glimpse at a potential Apple future. I can’t believe that the powers that be at Apple didn’t decide long ago that their future included Windows compatibility — after all, their experience with the halo effect of iPod might well be repeated if people buy MacBooks to run Windows, and then migrate to OS X after comparing the two…
