I’ve complained in the past about how long it takes TiVo to get things done; we’ve been waiting years for a stand-alone HD TiVo that still hasn’t hit the stores, they still haven’t managed to get their TiVo-To-Go software out for the Mac (although they finally released an update to their regular software that is compatible with the current system — a year after the system was released).
Last night, I noticed that a new network logo had appeared on my TiVo, evidently downloaded to it over the weekend. When I record from certain channels, I now see the UPN logo. Just for those keeping track, UPN went on the air in January, 1995. That’s 11 years ago.
UPN is ceasing operations in September, and has been replaced with “The CW.”
We should see a CW logo on TiVo sometime around 2016.
I think my TiVo (a huge old Sony version that must be 6-7 years old) is starting to die. A few minutes after I unpause it, I hit a couple seconds of silence, then it seems fine again.
Then again, maybe it just needs a reboot; it’s been awhile. And I’ve been keeping the disk pretty full too. To bad there isn’t a way to do a hard disk diagnotstic/repair.
The only reason I haven’t bought a new one is I paid for the lifetime subscription (that turned out to be a great deal) and would have to get a new one with a new unit.
As slow as TiVo is abotu some things, the interface and control sophistication is still lightyears ahead of the controls on my Comcast DVR. No auto jump back a few seconds when you stop FF’ing through a commercial is the worst thing.
