That icky Ken Mehlman is on CNN right now tossing off… um, some of those talking points. Today’s talking points include “all presidents lose their majority in the sixth year,” a desperate attempt to shift responsibility for this from the White House. It is worth pointing out that the last president, Bill Clinton, didn’t. The sixth year of his presidency saw a sudden surge in Democratic seats, the Republican majority lost ground that year. Of course, people have short attention spans, and they’ll probably believe tonight’s Republican talking point.
Another new talking point out tonight is “bi-partisan.” The Republicans have shut out the minority party in every conceivable way for the last dozen years, and now suddenly they are coming out in favor of bi-partisanship… and mark my words, if the Democrats run Congress in the same way the Republicans have, you can bet that the Republicans will be whining about it. Because no one is better at whining and griping that they are being persecuted than the right wing.
By the way, Republicans — when every single talking head of the right wing variety uses the same phrases over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over… don’tcha think that the electorate is gonna finally understand that you’re reading off the script?
We noticed last night that all of the R losers in their concession speeches were using the “strong headwinds” phrase to describe why they lost. It was maddening.
