Take a look at these two Tikka Masala jars. 1) Both jars have the same amount of product inside. One jar says that a serving size is 1/2 cup, and there are 3 servings in the jar. The other says a serving size is 1 cup, and there are 4 servings in there. 2) If one has 130 calories per 1/2 cup, and the other has 110 calories per cup, then one has more than twice the calories of the other. So of course, I wouldn’t pick that one. 3) But wait: the first one claims that a cup is 140g, the second says a cup is 106g. So, by grams, the second one is higher in calories. 4) Hold on: a cup is a measure of volume, but a gram is a measure of mass. So you can’t compare them using grams unless they are the same mass, which they are obviously now. 5) How to make the decision? I got the first one, ‘cos there is NO WAY there are 4 cups of sauce in that second jar. Nutrition labels are totally useless.
