Just As I Thought

World’s Fastest Police Chases: 8; Futurama: 0

What’s the funniest, best written sitcom on television? You may never have seen it.

What’s the funniest, best written sitcom on television? You may never have seen it. It’s called Futurama, and sadly, it airs (sometimes) on Fox. It’s incredible to me how they treat this program from Simpsons creator Matt Groening. Like the seasons before, this year they have scheduled first run episodes at 7pm on Sunday, where they are routinely preempted by football on the east coast. On top of that, they show so few episodes that they have a long backlog and have cancelled production. They’ve just started the 5th season, using episodes from the 3rd and 4th seasons they never showed. This show has won Emmys, but you’ll never see a promo for it. Perhaps it’s pro-environment and other “liberal” episodes are too much for right wing Fox?

Update: There is joy in Arlington! Futurama actually aired tonight, with the episode entitled “Jurassic Bark.” It was a prime example of the way Futurama sometimes fools us by making an emotional episode. I have to admit that I cried at this end of this one. Since it hasn’t aired yet elsewhere, I’ll just keep my mouth shut on this.
