The instantaneous nature of the net makes this change possible – unfortunately, it’s not as easy to swap the images on printed brochures and other collateral. It’s to Apple’s credit that they quietly changed this image as well as the space shuttle screen images in their stores, without being maudlin or calling attention to it. I’m not one to rush around wearing ribbons, planting flags on cars, or creating “spontaneous memorials,” and I generally find that companies look upon tragedies as a way to market themselves, but I think that this was a prudent step to take for Apple.
