One the justifications given by conservatives for cutting public broadcasting funding is their belief that the programming is duplicated on cable channels such as Discovery Channel. (No one ever seems to care that PBS is free over the public airwaves, while Discovery Channel must be subscribed to via cable or satellite.)
Well, to those that believe the programming is the same, I offer what’s currently on the two channels: on the national PBS feed, “Zoom: spelling bee; homemade lemonade; opera; turning milk into plastic; turning cream into butter.” On Discovery Channel: “Freak Accidents: Carelessness, stupidity and greed are often factors in the incidents.”
Which educational programming would you rather your children watched?
