Just As I Thought

I just wanna watch my shows

As you probably know, I watch far too much TV, and get far too worked up about how cluttered television has become with ads, promos, logos, etc. etc. etc.
It’s getting harder and harder to actually see the program you’re watching. Well, tonight, “The New TNN” aka “Spike” finally broke my last straw. They have begun overlaying such an intrusive, annoying animated promo over the programming that I have finally decided it’s not worth watching this channel.
They’ve gone far beyond what has been done before. I give you an example of the kind of thing they’re doing:

I’m not an old guy, relatively speaking. I’ll be 37 one week from now. But I can remember a time when advertisements and programming were segregated. Now, the ads are plastered annoyingly over the programming, obscuring the show visually and audibly. I remember watching such shows as “Mork and Mindy” without a logo in the lower right corner, without a pointless “rating” in the upper left, without a stupid reminder of what show I was watching when the commercials were over, without credits squeezed down to an inch in width so a promo could be run, and without scrolling or animated promos across the bottom.

When did the public airwaves become a bottomless pit of advertising and clutter? Did it happen too slowly for us to notice and become annoyed? With all this advertising on my airwaves, why am I not getting a cut of the profits? I’m certainly not benefiting from more or better programming. At least, on the 1/3 of the picture I can see.
