Pal Jon and I went to the Kennedy Center tonight for a performance of The Taming of the Shrew by the Royal Shakespeare Company — wow! The Royal Shakespeare Company. Wow. You know, there’s nothing like seeing a Shakespeare play, with the humor, the stage business, the whole thing. You can’t read it, it wasn’t meant to be read.
I had a great time. They were wonderful, and the eponymous shrew Katharine was played by Alexandra Gilbreath, who I instantly recognized as Stella from the BBC series “Monarch of the Glen“. She was fantastic and brought such a wonderful sort of modernity to the role, with winks and nods to the 21st century independent woman.
