A few moments ago on “All Things Considered,” an analyst from the Heritage Foundation was defending the Bush administration’s preoccupation with missile defense instead of terrorism. He actually said (with a straight face, I assume, although it was radio), and I’m paraphrasing, that on September 11 he had to walk down Massachusetts Avenue to meet his wife, and was struck by the realization that if there was at that moment a second strike by the terrorists using intercontinental ballistic missiles, there was no defense against them.

I swear. He really said it.
