I’ll give it a chance, because it’s still better than the alternatives.
Morning Edition without Bob Edwards is one thing, but having two anchors is one too many for this early in the morning. It wouldn’t be so bad if they would each deal with one story, but their switch-off method of presenting a piece is jarring. It’s like sitting by yourself in front of two people telling a story, alternating paragraphs so that you must swing your head back and forth to keep up. When that voice changes suddenly from Steve Inskeep to Renee Montagne in the middle of introducing a story, it takes my early-morning brain a moment to figure out what’s happened. What’s wrong with each anchor taking one story? Why do they have to make it more difficult to listen?
And was it just a waking dream, when I heard this morning at 5am, through groggy ears, Steve Inskeep saying “This is Morning Edition. I’m not Bob Edwards”?
