Just As I Thought

I may be liberal, but this is ridiculous

Well, take away my liberal ID card if you must, but I’ve just been watching some left wing program on “Free Speech TV” that makes me cringe. It’s a strange, 14-minute film about the Skull and Bones society, clearly meant to instill fear of the organization. I think. The problem is that it has no coherent message or narrative, consists mainly of dramatic and dire music, and a lot of footage of nothing in particular.

In one short segment, a man is standing outside the Bohemian Club in San Francisco, taunting the doorman asking “Where is your property line?” and insisting that he can film because it’s a public street. But there is no indication of why he is doing this, and what the members of the Bohemian Club have done that warrants the scrutiny. WhatEVER.

They read part of a student’s writing claiming that he was freaked out by weird noises coming from Skull and Bones on their hazing night. Big deal.

There is, at one point, a grainy home movie of George H.W. Bush embracing a young girl on a swing. There’s no narration, just music that indicates impending doom. What in the hell are they trying to say?

When I watch liberal hatchet jobs, I prefer that they actually come right out with their accusations and back them up with evidence of some sort. This film didn’t even get to the accusation, they just took up 11 minutes of my life with a jumble of grainy images and recorded telephone calls that — gasp — accused Bush and his son Dubya of being members of — horror of horrors — a secret society at Yale that tends to have members from upper-class families.

Next thing you know, they’ll be accused of being Masons.

At the end of this exercise in amateur filmmaking with no point is a credit for “Journeyman Pictures.” Their website lists information on a 90 minute version (yikes — there is no way I could sit through that). You can view a clip from it, or buy a tape. It seems like it may be a Dutch film. But there’s no credits on the thing, no indication of who made it. There are no chyrons on the screen telling you who the people are being interviewed or doing the narration. And there is no copyright notice anywhere on the thing. I wonder if anyone would care if I digitized it and posted it here as an example of how to not be a left wing wacko? Anyone interested in seeing it?
