It’s interesting: Apple yesterday quietly announced that, yes, a new iMac is on the way, but they are having production problems. Unfortunately, they stopped producing the current version in anticipation of the new model, so they’ve stopped taking orders.
They’ve had lots of problems with production in the last few years, from G5s to iPods. And all of their products are made in Taiwan now.
I remember when the Mac made its debut, and Apple proudly showed off the manufacturing plant in California. But these days, they make nothing in the United States anymore.
I wonder if their production problems have anything to do with the offshoring, to these small companies I’ve never heard of?
A prediction: when the new iMac makes it debut in September, how much you wanna bet that the marketing will include some riff on the phrase “worth the wait?”
