Just in time for our celebration of American freedom, comes this story courtesy of the lovely and talented Mac:
OK, so if you live in the U.S., you know Independence Day was yesterday. It’s the day we’re supposed to feel good about being American, and reflect on all our freedoms, etc., etc. One of the freedoms I like the most is the freedom of expression. I can walk outside my house in my suburban neighborhood wearing a tshirt that says “I don’t like the suburbs.” and I can’t get arrested for it.
Or can I?
Yesterday George Bush gave a little pep talk in West Virginia, outside the Capitol.
Two Bush opponents, taken out of the crowd in restraints by police, said they were told they couldn’t be there because they were wearing shirts that said they opposed the president.
I would like to know exactly what these two people were doing. Were they standing there, listening to the speech? Were they heckling the President? Were they picking fights with Bush supporters? It would be good to know a little more about this before I get really afraid, but just on the surface this looks very, very bad.
