You know, the thing that makes me most angry at the pro-gun people is their constant use of the line calling for no bans on guns, but instead, “enforcement” of the laws already on the books.
Bush said this yesterday, as did many gun nuts. They’ve been saying it for years and years.
So, why isn’t Bush doing this? Why isn’t he working to give police the resources they need to enforce gun laws?
The gun ban in DC makes me scratch my head. When I lived in DC, I had a handgun put to my head on the street outside my house. The ban obviously doesn’t work — but how can it be enforced? And the problem with lifting the ban is that then the guy would not have committed a crime until he pulled the trigger and blew my brains out. Then there’s a law to be enforced, right?
The enforcement of the laws the NRA and others call for are after-the-fact. Prosecuting someone for murder after he uses a gun is not as desirable as prosecuting someone before he uses the gun to kill someone.
