Okay, it’s been a week since Hurricane Ivan made its way up the Gulf and north, through the mid-Atlantic states (including my neighborhood). So why is it suddenly back on the charts, in the gulf heading back toward Louisiana?
This makes no sense to me at all — the storm went north and fell apart, 6 days pass, and then there’s a new storm down south and they’ve designated it as Ivan again. By all rights, it should have been Matthew, the next name in the list. (By the way, if you’re looking for names for a child, there’s no better place to look than the list of names for upcoming hurricanes. How about Gert? The list now contains some names that would never have been contemplated back when it was first developed, showing the evolution of naming trends by parents trying to make a statement… like Joaquin, which replaces Juan in 2009. In a reverse trend, Fabian will be replaced with Fred in that year.
