Just As I Thought

Now I know it was a satire

Evidently, the results of the People’s Choice Awards last night underscore the strange right wing-left wing split in our country: the winner for “favorite film” was Fahrenheit 9/11; the winner for “favorite drama” was The Passion of the Christ. (Of course, Passion was not a “right wing” film, the right doesn’t hold a monopoly on religion and some of the most liberal people I know are very religious.)
Here’s what’s interesting to me — does that award show just create any old category at all? What is the point of having both “favorite film” and “favorite drama?” In fact, they also had “favorite comedy,” “favorite animated,” “favorite sequel”… yikes. They opened up the floodgates for awards with even more variations, thus handing out awards to everyone: reality show, competition; reality show, makeover; reality show, 24/7… “Crest favorite smile”, “Pantene favorite hair,” “Cover Girl favorite look”.
In the world of popularity contests, this wasn’t one. There was some kind of award for everyone.
Gee, in the blogging awards, I hope I can win “Best blog with green highlights and an occasional cow at the top.”
