DC Mayor Anthony Williams recently debuted the new “key to the city”, a $2,000 piece of metal with a bizarre design that’s given to VIPs. It’s a stunningly unimpressive key, it kind of looks like the weird key to a phone closet or something.
What worries me most is that little “map” at the top. It includes Arlington and Alexandria, on the west side of the river. Is Washington’s mayor trying to reunify us with Washington? Or is he throwing in carte blanche privileges in Virginia to VIPs as well?
Keep your VIPs to yourself, please. We don’t need them here in Arlington. Not for $2,000, at least.
