President Bush’s unique way of changing the message has struck again. His usual harping on one point over and over and over until it ingrains itself into the mind of the public is typically combined with a misdirection. Here’s today’s example:
Now that Cindy Sheehan has left Crawford, Texas, Bush hastily arranged a press conference, and insinuated that he had spoken with Sheehan. He said that he had heard her opinion and that he disagreed — that our troops must not be pulled out of Iraq. He’s said this over and over, and at this point I’ll bet most people think that Cindy Sheehan wants to talk to him to tell him to pull out.
In fact, this is not true at all. Cindy Sheehan’s point in wanting to talk to the president is for him to explain why we are in Iraq. But the president is not about to go there, because it’s a no-win situation for him. He can’t answer her question, and instead the administration reframes the argument.
