Just As I Thought

Just like life. Only twice as exhausting.

Sometimes people put big “buy tickets now!” exhortations on their websites and ads just to create a sense of excitement. I’m guilty of that myself.
But now that DC Shorts is only hours away, the urgency is justified. We check the online ticket sales several times a day, and they’re coming very close to selling out — one show has less than 10 tickets left right now. And this for a theatre that seats about 200!
I went down to the theatre today to get a handle on the technical requirements (I had to buy a couple of DVD players today because the equipment at the theatre couldn’t handle a dual-layer DVD+R disc… I’m cutting edge, as always) and was amazed! The Landmark E Street Cinema in downtown DC, just a few blocks from the Mall and the White House, is beautiful. And we’re in the largest theatre. I stepped into the theatre during a show, and froze, thinking of our festival (and my cool opening title sequence) playing on that huge screen. And of course, I’m obsessing about something going wrong with the DVD, even though I created backup discs.
Tomorrow will be frantic, staging the various venues for screenings, a big party, a filmmaker lounge. And Sunday evening I’ll sit down and take a long breath. After all the complaining, worrying, and obsessing, it’ll all be over and I’ll fume about this and that… then I’ll say, “Let’s do it again!”

Meanwhile, for my loyal blog readers, here’s a special free gift: you get to see the opening titles for the festival that I was slaving over before anyone else. First, make sure you have Quicktime. Then, right- (or option-) click and save this movie (you probably can’t view it in your browser).

  • Am I ever a lucky bastard! “Meanwhile, for my loyal blog readers” I guess thats me or at least I hope its me because I jumped at the chance.
I went straight to the 26meg version. Having an G5 with a wide screen and 5-ch surround I just knew it would be good.
But good doesn’t even begin to cover it, to be honest I was blown away.

    Total shock, my God.
    What talent, what artistic vision.
    What perfect execution.
    Its…
    I’m…
    Speechless
