Just As I Thought

Someday you’ll buy groceries from iTunes

This is the sort of thing I expected — the ability to purchase TV shows through iTunes (although, will the be changing the name?).
Watching TV has become so annoying of late, with all the clutter and crap. I’ve often thought I’d just like to buy an episode rather than put up with all the broadcast annoyance.
Question is, will episodes of “Lost” purchased from iTunes include the clutter? The network logo bugs? And what will be the resolution of a $1.99 episode?

Update: Well, I downloaded iTunes 6, but discovered that it requires a version of Quicktime that hasn’t been released yet. Meanwhile, even though there’s a big ad for music videos on the music store, clicking upon it takes one to a blank browser screen. Clicking on “Lost” or “Desperate Housewives” takes you to their respective download pages, but even though they are listed under “TV Shows,” there’s no such category in the browser.
The first hours are critical — or at least, bring out the most critics. Better get the video store running smoothly soon!

I still stand by my comments on the futility of video on a tiny screen. Now, even though the new iPod has a “TV out” capability, it’ll be playing video at 320×240 resolution — in other words, VHS quality (or worse).

Nevertheless… I can imagine that it would be nice for, say, a cross-country plane trip to catch up on some shows you missed, albeit on a tiny screen. I watched movies, etc. on my Powerbook while flying last month, but it also required a power cord and a cramped viewing experience with the Powerbook on the tray table. I can see where an iPod would be more convenient for that sort of thing. But for every day use? Nah. I wonder what the premium is for the added video capability?
