The horrific story here in the Bay Area of the drowning death of three young children by their mother raises in a significant question.
Lashuan Ternice Harris stripped her children of their clothes and then threw them into San Francisco bay, apparently under the influence of untreated schitzophrenia. She and the three children had been living for two months in a homeless shelter in Oakland.
The children’s father, Taronta Greely of Oakland, was understandably totally distraught.
But the media reports don’t mention whether he was also homeless — if he was not, why were his three children and their mentally ill mother living in a homeless shelter? If he has a home, is he culpable for allowing his children to live without a home?
