Can I just point out here just a few of the things that were going on at the Bush White House before he was re-elected? Things that were covered up and hidden away, things that — had they become public knowledge — would certainly have resulted in an election loss?
Let’s see: there was the Valerie Plame leak, an illegal leak of classified information to the press. It was kept quiet until after the election.
There was the Abu Graib scandal, which was covered up to a significant extent — we still don’t know everything that happened there.
And of course, as we just found out, there were the possibly illegal domestic wiretaps, something that began before the elections — and it seems that the New York Times story would have been published before the election if they hadn’t been in the back pocket of the White House.
Who knows how many other scandals have been simmering below the Bush cover up staff, policies and events that they’ve kept hidden and could have thwarted re-election?
