I was all prepared to ignore the whole Cheney shooting incident from here on out, but then the Vice President started making himself out to be the victim. Even his pals at Fox News played along, asking “how he was” in the aftermath of the incident. We’re all worried about Mr. Cheney’s delicate constitution and his tendency to internalize his emotions, and we care, Dick.
But today, even the man who was shot came out and “expressed sympathy for Cheney as he deals with the aftermath of the shooting.” As if that wasn’t enough, the victim said, “My family and I are deeply sorry for all that Vice President Cheney and his family have had to go through this past week.”
This almost sounds like a victim of domestic violence, who blames herself for the severe beating, saying that she deserves it because she didn’t have dinner on the table in time.
On a related note, I was amused by The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart, who pointed out a ridiculous Star Wars mash-up produced by the Republicans (gee, hope they get sued for copyright infringement) that compared the Democrats to The Empire. He pointed out that the Democrats are more rightly compared to the Ewoks, and the Republicans — in power and running the government — are the Empire. It constantly bewilders me how the Republicans manage to portray themselves as the underdogs, as the ones being put upon, as the victims of those mean Democrats. That tactic continues with the victimization of poor Dick Cheney, who is suffering so much from some buckshot.
