Just As I Thought

What an honor, Mr. President

One of the “events” during yesterday’s Bush visit was touted heavily in the papers here. Local resident Joe Russo was slated to receive an honor from the president for his work in training San Jose seniors in the use of computers. Naturally, with so much hype, I was interested in seeing how he was honored.
Here’s how the Mercury News described the event:

San Josean Joe Russo, 68, got his few minutes — well, several seconds — with the president. Just before Bush jumped in the motorcade from Moffett, he posed with Russo for a photo. Russo was given a lapel pin, which read “The Presidential Call to Service Award,” in recognition of his training senior citizens how to use computers.

“They’re supposed to send me a signed photo and some other stuff in four to six weeks,” said Russo, who added Bush just thanked him “before they pushed him to the door.”
