Instead of passing clean bills that fund our troops on the front lines, the House and Senate have spent this time debating bills that undercut the troops. but substituting the judgment of politicians in Washington for the judgment of our commanders on the ground, setting an arbitrary deadline for withdrawal from Iraq, and spending billions of dollars on pork-barrel projects completely unrelated to the war.
“Substituting the judgment of politicians for judgment commanders on the ground?” It is worth remembering that Bush himself has consistently replaced experienced military commanders because their “judgment” didn’t agree with the judgment of his political beliefs.
And while I think that the pork included in the funding bill was disgusting, it was no more so than in the last dozen years of Republican rule over Congress. (Still, I expected a cleaner process from the Democrats.)
And now they have left Washington for spring recess without finishing the work.
This from the president who has distinguished himself for spending more time on vacation during his two terms than any president before him. Oh, by the way — he is leaving for his vacation tomorrow morning.
If Democrat leaders in Congress are bent on making a political statement, then they need to send me this unacceptable bill as quickly as possible when they come back.
Once again, he uses “Democrat” as a pejorative term. This time, it didn’t seem to elicit comment.
if Congress fails to pass a bill I can sign by mid-April, the Army will be forced to consider cutting back on equipment…
Hypocrisy, pure and simple. Don’t forget that while he had the rubber-stamp support of a Republican Congress, families of our troops had to save up to purchase and send over armor because the government didn’t supply it.
Bill?
QUESTION: Mr. President, a lot of the disagreement…
BUSH: Wrong Bill.
QUESTION: Which one, him?
BUSH: No, you. The cute looking one.
QUESTION: Thanks so much.
Well, don’t ask, don’t tell.
