Just As I Thought

Make the ringing stop

For the last three days, a fax machine – or a bank of machines – has been calling my home phone incessantly. Unlike telemarketers, there is no one to complain to. I can’t yell at a machine. I just hear the haunting BEEEP! BEEEP! BEEEP!
It’s been calling from a bank of different numbers, indicating to me that it’s either a junk faxer or a corporate trunk line system. But I can’t track down who it is or who the numbers belong to. Today I managed to send a fax back to one of the constantly busy numbers telling them to please, in the name of God, STOP. But the receiving fax machine gave no identifying information.
The numbers that have been calling today are: (202) 387-4253, (202) 387-3468, and (202) 387-6235. Ever seen these numbers? Have a clue who this is who is driving me to distraction?

  • I have the exact same thing going on here in my home business office. I cannot pick up any numbers on my caller ID. My local phone company says there is nothing there can do. It rings during the night and day.Sometimes the frequentcy is every 10-15 minutes. This is actually interfering with business. What can I do?

  • First, try Anonymous Call Blocking service from the phone company, usually about $7 a month.
Second, try *69 to see if that connects you to whomever is calling. And tell them to lay off.
Third, change your number — I had to do that a few years ago. Of course, that meant that I started getting bill collectors calling for the person who had the number before me, and I still get them years later.
