You know, years ago I had a crush on the editor of The New Republic (until I ran into him a few times in my Dupont Circle neighborhood and realized he was really rude). His name was Andrew Sullivan, and as it turned out, my gaydar was right on target with him.
So now, history is repeating itself: I am developing a schoolgirl crush on Peter Beinart, the latest editor:
Oh, Gene! You didn’t know Andrew Sullivan was gay!?! Even I knew that, and I’m horribly out of touch.
He wrote an editorial on gay marriage on the back page of Time.
Well, I didn’t know back when I first encountered him; then again, that was, oh, 1993 and I hadn’t read anything about him, I’d just seen his pic in TNR.
