Yesterday I opened up the Yellow Pages — by the way, does anyone use phone books anymore? This was the first time I used that book in years — and this is the page it opened to:

What a fantastic sense of humor the phone company has — knowing that sleazy dads are perusing these pages, they target them with a child-friendly public service announcement. Ah, juxtaposition… how amusing.

Meanwhile, I’m given to wonder about these “escort” ads. The ones I saw on that page weren’t even trying to mask their true nature, they’re outright prostitute ads. It sort of points out the fundamental problem with morality — pun intended. Money is more important than morality to a lot of people, so the “escort” loophole will always remain in place, allowing an illegal activity to be advertised. I wonder where in the Yellow Pages I can find the thinly veiled ads for hit men and drug dealers?
