Just As I Thought

Can you switch me now?

Ah, the dilemma — do I switch to Verizon, or stick with AT&T?
Let’s check out the pros and cons.

Ah, the dilemma — do I switch to Verizon, or stick with AT&T?
Let’s check out the pros and cons.

AT&T

Pro: I’ve gotten my monthly bill down to a manageable amount.
Pro: I can check mail, look things up, or view a map while talking on the phone — and I do on some occasions.
Pro: Never really had any issues with their customer service.
Pro: The 3G network data is pretty speedy. Except for…
Con: Horrible coverage. In my house, in a store, at the mall, downtown, in Disneyland… 1 or 2 bars, and calls drop incessantly.
Con: Made me pay big bucks for a microcell to bring coverage into my house, and I returned it cos the call quality was horrific.

Verizon

Pro: Anecdotally, I’m hearing that they have excellent network coverage and calls don’t drop.
Con: Can’t talk and use data at the same time.
Con: Data speed is half that of AT&T. And I use data far more than I talk on the phone.
Con: They only have unlimited data, so my bill would go up.
Con: A decade ago when I had Verizon, their customer service and billing issues were terrible. Is it fair to judge them on experiences from a decade ago?
Con: Switching involves paying AT&T off for my contract, then the cost of a new phone, then an activation fee (stupid).
Pro: I could sell my previous phone for enough to pay for that contract fee.

I dunno. I don’t see enough Pros in the Verizon side of the equation to make a move worth my while — yet. What do you think?
