I know other people saw the plan, why didn’t I? Perhaps I saw it but didn’t think it would work.
- Make a call for a constitutional amendment against same sex marriage, even though it has no chance of passing. Fundamentalists will assume that their way of life is under assault.
- Have the vice-president, who has a gay daughter, come out against the amendment and for state’s rights. This will mollify the less vociferous members of your base who still believe in freedom and refuse to tamper with the constitution. The left will quiet down a little, thinking that the vice president is tolerant.
- Taking a cue from the vice president, get the states to place anti-gay constitutional amendments on the ballot — especially swing states like Ohio.
- Sit back and wait for the fundamentalist extremists to flock to the polls to vote against godless homosexuals, and while they’re there, might as well vote for Bush.
Duh. How did I miss it? How did the pollsters miss it? How did we all think the election would turn on the economy and Iraq? Wow. That Karl Rove is craftier than we thought. Once again, we underestimated his machiavellian plot.
