That was easy – the server is moved and working just fine in the new house.
This is because when Jann and I set it up, I arranged it all on a little shelf unit. The cable modem connects to the router, the router connects to the switch, the switch connects to the Airport and the Mac Mini. It all connects to a battery backup power supply.
So, it’s like a little cheap server rack, self-contained with everything in place and cabled together. I just picked up the shelf, drove over here, and plugged the power cord in and the cable modem in, and voila — a server is born.
It’ll take the rest of the day for the new internet address to percolate through the network, but if you’re reading this… well, it percolated.
Time to move the rest of my office; then tonight I’ll move the TV over. This means that I’ll be spending the night in the old place with no TV, no internet, no books, no nothing. How will I manage? How will I survive? Tune in tomorrow for the exciting conclusion of… The Move.
